POINTMAN'S "FINE" ART PAGE
The stuff you will see on this page spans like three decades... and considering it is that long a period of time... well, there really isn't very much of it. My entire career was in retail advertising. I was a layout artist, production manager, advertising manager and art director over the course of 35 years. Honestly, by the time I got home at the end of the day, I wasn't particularly interested in sitting down at a drawing table. But here are a few things I can show. I work in Graphite, Watercolor and Computer illustration and there is a little bit of each here.
The next four pictures are all CATS. I use to spend what FINE ART time I had doing pet portraits. This usually involved going to the pet owner's house, taking pictures of their pet and then selecting an image that I could do a portrait from. I have done these over the years in Pencil, chalk and Conte Crayon. I've done dozen of dogs and even a horse, which was really different.
Over the course of my advertising career, I saw huge changes in technology. When I started out, I was doing ad layouts in pencil, which then went to a type house to be set. Next was in-house production using typesetting machines and black and white photography. Finally, we went to computers in the 90's and of course those changed and became more sophisticated over time. I fell in love with computer art and have spent most of my time on Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. But there have been other programs as well, like ARTRAGE which is a relatively inexpensive drawing/paint program for it's capabilities.

Shifting gears again, to work related art. This is some more of that ink stippling. This is an ad that I did for the San Francisco Examiner back in 1984. When I first moved to the Bay Area, the cable cars were out of service. In 1984 they were up and running again and we did an ad to celebrate their return. The original art was done from a stock cable car photo in ink.

Years later I was working for Kroger Stores, which I did this little Photoshop piece. I was an art director at the time and occasionally I liked to poke fun at our advertising agency. They had come up with this promotion with these "big head" people and I thought it would be fun to turn them into collectible bobble heads. The cereal box was completely reworked to create my special cereal promotion. (the agency didn't see the humor in this)

Well, I am going to end this "FINE ART" section with one last pencil drawing. This is piece that I did a few years back. It was drawn from a color photo in a book. The models for the image are Civil War reenactors, doing what reenactors do best, looking cool. My favorite part is the horse. So that's it... thanks for looking. - PM
