SPECIAL FORCES VEHICLE, DESERT
HASBRO HUMVEE KITBASH
In 2018 I was able to get my hands on a Hasbro Humvee through eBay. I had always kicked myself for not buying one when they were sitting on the shelf at the toy store. I always told myself if I eventually found one I could afford, I would try my best to do it up right. So when I finally found one, I. started researching Humvees online and I found some pictures of Special Forces Humvees that seem to be exactly what I was looking for.

First thing I did when the vehicle finally arrived was haul out all my modern stuff to see what I might be able to detail it with once I got going. Note - only one of these figures actually made it to the final crew, but a lot this other stuff did get used, along with other items.
The project actually got started on a camping trip. My wife was doing a week long class at the John C. Campbell Folk Art School down in North Carolina and I spent the week in our RV entertaining the cats and working on the project. This first picture was taken two days into it after I had "raised" the vehicle according to instructions I found online. Man, that was a scary thing. But, admittedly, it looked much better after it was done.
Here we are, third day into the project and we have some significant changes to the front of the vehicle. Not to mention the removal of the plastic blob up top where the machine gun/grenade launcher is supposed to go.
Recessed fuel tank access, that was kind of a pain actually.
Another shot of the front.
Here, roof panel set in position, prior to cutting hole in top. Some detail on the cargo area and a radio rack and some dash detail.
Close up of that interior detail.
Roof panels are now fixed in place and I got started on the rotating piece on top where I was going to mount my grenade launcher. I wanted to use the original Hasbro piece and just make some improvements with additional detailing rather than scratch built the whole thing. Eventually I would decide that it looked a little too deep and would end up cutting it down (now that was a pain).
Additional details, support for side machine fun and radio antennas.
Here we are at home after the camping trip. My new improved Humvee, with new crew is sitting next to my Taowan MRAP.
Thinned down gun mount support "turret" thingy with a gun shield added.
The machine gun mount with some additional detail starting to go into place. Below additional detail to the radios.
Below: And here we are with a fresh coat of paint and some detail items added. I was really starting to like this baby.
I had seen a picture of a carton of cigarettes sitting on the dash, wedged between the windshield and the radios. I wanted to include that for sure.
