POINT MAN'S MOTOPOOL
U.S.VEHICLES - WWII
One of two Stuarts in my 37th Tank Battalion unit. Skirts removed with Dremel tool. Tie-down molding removed and replaced with functional ones made from brass wire and styrene. Cast periscopes added with brass wire guards. Scratchbuilt tool box on rear of vehicle and tools repositioned according to reference material. Vehicle repainted and lettered, weathered lightly and details such as crates, sandbags, bedrolls, etc added.

DRAGON Model kit, built straight from the box and painted, lettered and weathered for my 37th Tank Battalion. Caution - Dragon instruction sheets suck big time.
Stuart number two - Functional tie-downs and reworked tools. All the same cast items added and skirts removed as well. Also painted and lettered for 37th Tank Battalion and then lightly weathered.
Below, standard out of the box, ready to play with Dragon Jeep Added 37th Tank Battalion markings to front and rear bumpers. |
This Jeep started out as an Out of the Box Hasbro Jeep. I reworked the gas can holder and put a better gas can in it. Then I added tool mounts on the drivers side of the vehicle for a more prototypical look. Repainted and lettered.
The Dodge started out as a 21st Century Toys Dodge Command Car. It got hacked and hacked and then a new back end was added. Also redid seats for driver and passenger so that they would look more like original. Tools we reworked on back tailgate and front wheels were reworked so that they could swivel left and right for photographs.

This half-track represents a M2A1, which is about a foot longer than the White Scout Car and was actually produced by the White Truck Co. The model uses the tracked running gear from the Hasbro half-track (which is a little small), the front of the White Scout Car and a Scratchbuilt rear compartment. When sitting next to the WSC, it looks basically correct. Functional tie-downs from brass and styrene, reworked doors, opened grill and a whole lot more. I built three of these for myself and Gray Ghost.

M4A3 Shermans, 37th Tank Battalion. The one above was built from a model kit (worst model in the planet). Added plate armor to hull and turret and a few other little details. The tank below was an out of the box Sherman, but if you own one, you know that there is still some assembly required. Same modifications.
BRITISH VEHICLES - WWII
The desert SAS Jeep was built years ago from a Hasbro desert jeep. Pretty much all the details were pulled off the Hasbro Jeep and thrown away. Racks were built for the Jerry Cans, which are a combination of 21st Century and Dragon Cans. The vehicle was repainted and weathered heavily. To this day it is still one of my favorite bashes.

This vehicle was built for me back around 2005 by Denver Club member Lanny. It is an amazing piece with working hatches and an interior. All kinds of eye candy are stowed all over the vehicle. It was meant to be a companion piece to my desert SAS Jeep.
DRAGON ready to play, out of the box, ETO SAS Jeep. No modifications.
This project actually hasn't happened yet. I have the Stuart, but haven't had the time to start on it. This will be a companion piece to my Daimler Dingo when completed. It will get pretty much the same treatment as my other Stuarts but with some "Brit" details that the other two don't have. Also thinking about a partial interior on this one.
This is my recently completed Daimler Dingo, built from scratch from Sheet styrene, styrene strip and brass. The wheels were cast from a modified Hasbro wheel. You can see more of this project by clicking the button below if you have not already seen it.
GERMAN VEHICLES - WWII
I originally purchased this piece from Gary 1930. Gary had built it from the old Panzerjaun kit, but had not done any detailing on it. I detailed it out and made a couple of corrections. IT was then repainted desert tank as above. The vehicle has since been camouflaged, lettered and weathered for Normandy campaign.

This is one of two out of the box Schwimmwagens that I have. Both have a driver and radio man with a radio. This particular one, I use with my "Fall" troops and the other one is used with my "spring" troops.
Zundapp Motorcycle and Side Car, straight out of the box from DID. Beautiful piece; I have done nothing to it other than adding the DAK troopers.
Two Panzer IIs; The one above is the early war model B and the one below is the later model C. Both are straight out of the box and have had nothing done to them.
Another Kubelwagen. Straight out of the box. This one was picked up at Joe'lanta a few years ago. Nothing has even been done to it.
